In a significant move to bolster bilateral ties, Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra in Beijing on Friday. The leaders pledged to expand trade and deepen cooperation across various sectors, elevating the China-Peru comprehensive strategic partnership to new heights.
Premier Li emphasized China’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with Peru, highlighting the importance of carrying forward the traditional friendship between the two nations. “China is willing to work with Peru to deepen cooperation and bring more benefits to our peoples,” Li stated.
The two leaders discussed enhancing synergy between their development strategies, focusing on expanding trade and deepening cooperation in traditional sectors such as mining, electricity, ports, and infrastructure. Under the guidance of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, they aim to ensure the steady implementation of major projects.
Furthermore, Premier Li called for collaboration in emerging fields including new energy, communications, digital economy, digital healthcare, and artificial intelligence. He underscored the significance of people-to-people and cultural exchanges in promoting mutual understanding and friendship.
China expressed support for Peru’s hosting of this year’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting. Li affirmed China’s willingness to strengthen communication and coordination with Peru in multilateral mechanisms like the United Nations and APEC, contributing positively to global peace and development.
President Boluarte hailed the enduring friendship between China and Peru, noting that Chinese investment and cooperation have effectively advanced Peru’s economic and social development. “Peru actively participates in Belt and Road cooperation and welcomes more Chinese enterprises to invest,” she remarked.
She emphasized Peru’s intention to expand practical cooperation with China in areas such as infrastructure, new energy, green development, and education. “The Peruvian government is committed to providing a favorable environment for this cooperation,” Boluarte added.
President Boluarte also reiterated Peru’s adherence to the one-China principle and expressed support for the Global Security Initiative. She voiced willingness to strengthen multilateral cooperation with China to jointly promote world peace and development.
