In a resounding call for unity, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged nations of the Global South to intensify efforts toward common development, solidarity, and cooperation. Speaking on Friday at a luncheon in Beijing commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, Wang highlighted the critical importance of collaborative growth in today’s interconnected world.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, emphasized that shared challenges and responsibilities bind the futures of all countries more closely than ever before. “Today, common challenges, interests, and responsibilities have linked the future of all countries more closely together,” he stated, advocating for the establishment of a new type of international relations centered on win-win cooperation.
He referenced the speech delivered by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the commemorative conference, noting that it has “charted the course for the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.” Wang conveyed that President Xi’s message resonates with the aspirations of the Global South to collaborate with people worldwide for a better future.
“The vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind is the most effective move to sustain, promote, and upgrade the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence in the new circumstances,” Wang asserted. He underscored the need for countries to embrace these principles to navigate the complexities of modern global relations.
The Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, established in 1954, include mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, and peaceful coexistence. These principles have long served as foundational guidelines for China’s foreign policy and international diplomacy.
Wang Yi’s remarks come at a time when countries across Asia and the wider Global South are seeking greater cooperation to address shared challenges such as economic development, public health, and climate change. His appeal reflects China’s ongoing commitment to fostering inclusive growth and strengthening ties among developing nations.
The luncheon brought together diplomats, government officials, and representatives from various countries, highlighting the significance of the anniversary and the continued relevance of the Five Principles in promoting global peace and cooperation.
