China Expresses Confidence in Bolivian Government Amid Failed Coup

China believes the Bolivian government is capable of maintaining peace and stability following a failed coup attempt, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Thursday.

The coup, led by General Juan Jose Zuniga against Bolivian President Luis Arce in an attempt to “restore democracy,” was thwarted by the government on Wednesday evening, resulting in Zuniga’s arrest.

“China has noticed reports about the “irregular military action” in Bolivia, and as a good friend, China hopes for peace and stability in Bolivia, which correspond to the long-term interests of the Bolivian people,” Mao said.
