Xi Jinping: China-Vietnam Shared Future Off to a Promising Start

Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed optimism about the future of China-Vietnam relations during a meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Beijing on Wednesday. Xi highlighted that the building of a China-Vietnam community with a shared future has gotten off to a promising start.

In December 2023, Xi, who is also the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, and Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, agreed to develop a China-Vietnam community with a shared future of strategic significance.

Over the past six months, the two parties and countries have engaged in close exchanges among high-ranking officials and fostered smooth cooperation in various fields, bringing tangible benefits to both peoples, Xi noted.

“The world today is undergoing changes unseen in a century,” Xi said. “Both China and Vietnam have maintained rapid economic development and long-term social stability, demonstrating the strengths of the socialist system.”

He emphasized that building a China-Vietnam community with a shared future aligns with the modernization needs of both countries and contributes to regional peace and stability, as well as the advancement of the global socialist cause.

Xi expressed China’s willingness to work with Vietnam to maintain solidarity and friendship, consolidate mutual support, and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation. “China stands ready to join hands with Vietnam to march toward modernization and make greater contributions to world peace, stability, development, and prosperity,” he added.
