Xi Jinping Calls for Advancing Common Prosperity in Ethnic Minority Regions

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for renewed efforts to promote high-quality development and advance common prosperity in regions with significant ethnic minority populations. In a recent reply letter to the residents of Jingning She Autonomous County in Zhejiang Province, Xi acknowledged the county’s achievements over the past four decades and encouraged continued progress.

Established in 1984, Jingning is the country’s only autonomous county of the She ethnic group, with the She population numbering over 18,000—about 11% of the county’s total population. In their letter to President Xi, the county’s Party and government authorities highlighted the remarkable developments made since gaining autonomy and expressed their commitment to leading the way in achieving common prosperity in ethnic regions.

President Xi commended the people of Jingning for their accomplishments, stating that he was pleased to see residents of all ethnic groups enjoying better lives. He urged the county to uphold its fine traditions and strengthen ethnic unity. Xi emphasized the importance of leveraging Jingning’s unique advantages to open new chapters in development, signaling the central government’s support for initiatives that foster economic growth and social harmony in minority regions.

The president’s call to action reflects China’s broader strategy to reduce regional disparities and promote equitable growth across the nation. By focusing on high-quality development and common prosperity, the government aims to ensure that all ethnic groups share in the benefits of the country’s economic progress.

Jingning’s leaders have pledged to continue their efforts in line with Xi’s guidance, focusing on sustainable development, cultural preservation, and improved living standards for all residents. The county serves as a model for other ethnic minority regions seeking to balance tradition with modernity while pursuing inclusive growth.
