Beijing, June 28 — Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to deliver a significant speech at the Conference Marking the 70th Anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence in Beijing on Friday. This event highlights China’s ongoing commitment to promoting global peace and cooperation.
According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, the conference aims to carry forward the Five Principles to jointly address current global challenges. “China will hold the conference and other commemorative events to respond to the calls of people around the world for peace, development, and cooperation,” Mao stated on Tuesday.
The event, themed “From the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence to the Building of a Community with Shared Future,” will host former political figures, experts, scholars, and representatives from the media and business communities worldwide. Participants are expected to reaffirm the original intent of the Five Principles and contribute wisdom and strength to help the international community tackle challenges and crises.
First introduced by then Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai on December 31, 1953, during a meeting with an Indian government delegation, the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence are mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, and peaceful coexistence. Over the past seven decades, these principles have become fundamental norms in international relations and international law.
President Xi’s address is anticipated to emphasize China’s dedication to these principles and its role in fostering a better future for humanity through collaboration and mutual respect.
