Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Monday afternoon in Dalian, northeast China, ahead of the upcoming 2024 Summer Davos Forum. The high-level meeting aimed to reinforce the strategic partnership between China and Vietnam, highlighting their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation.
Premier Li conveyed cordial greetings from General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chinese President Xi Jinping to Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, and Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong. Li emphasized the significance of the relationship between the two nations, noting that last year, General Secretary Xi Jinping and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong jointly announced the building of a China-Vietnam community with a shared future, setting a strategic blueprint for comprehensive cooperation in the new era.
“China is willing to work with Vietnam to further implement the important consensus reached between the top leaders of our two parties,” Li said. “We aim to promote the building of a China-Vietnam community with a shared future to benefit our peoples and contribute to regional peace, stability, and development.”
Premier Li called for leveraging the economic complementarities of both countries, facilitating synergy between China’s Belt and Road Initiative and Vietnam’s “Two Corridors and One Economic Circle” strategy. He urged for expanded trade and investment, strengthened connectivity, and the fostering of new growth areas in sectors such as new energy and the digital economy. Li also highlighted the importance of people-to-people and cultural exchanges in tourism, healthcare, education, and youth engagement to solidify public support for the China-Vietnam friendship.
Prime Minister Chinh expressed Vietnam’s strong commitment to enhancing long-term friendly cooperation with China, describing it as a strategic choice and a top priority in Vietnam’s foreign policy. “The Vietnamese side firmly adheres to the one-China policy, supports China’s development, and backs China’s accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership,” Chinh stated.
Chinh affirmed Vietnam’s willingness to work closely with China to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation across various fields. “We are dedicated to promoting the building of the Vietnam-China community with a shared future to achieve more fruitful results,” he added.
