In a bid to inject stability into a turbulent world, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Polish President Andrzej Duda have pledged to elevate China-Poland relations to a higher level.
On Monday, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, President Xi welcomed President Duda, who is on a five-day state visit to China. The two leaders discussed strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing cooperation across various sectors.
“Today, changes in the world, in our times and in history are unfolding in ways like never before,” Xi remarked during the talks. “China is willing to work with Poland to adhere to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, stay true to the original mission of establishing diplomatic relations, and carry forward the traditional friendship.”
A 75-Year-Old Friendship
This year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Poland. Reflecting on the historical ties, Xi noted that the steady development of China-Poland relations over the years has been rooted in mutual respect, equal treatment, and mutually beneficial cooperation.
President Xi emphasized the importance of both nations understanding and supporting each other’s efforts to safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests. He called for joint opposition to the Cold War mentality and camp confrontation, advocating for an equal, orderly, and multipolar world.
Enhancing Cooperation and Connectivity
The leaders agreed to make full use of platforms like the China-Poland Intergovernmental Committee to strengthen strategic coordination. They discussed advancing high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and enhancing collaboration in areas such as trade, agriculture, digital economy, green industry, and clean energy.
Highlighting economic ties, Xi welcomed more quality Polish agricultural products and food into the Chinese market. He also expressed hope that Poland would provide a fair and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese companies.
In a significant move to boost people-to-people exchanges, Xi announced that China has decided to implement a 15-day unilateral visa-free policy for Polish citizens.
Looking Ahead
Both leaders expressed a commitment to promoting sustainable development through the China-Central and Eastern European Countries (CEECs) cooperation mechanism. They underscored the importance of fostering sound and stable China-Europe relations.
President Duda’s visit follows Xi’s state visit to Poland in 2016, where the two countries agreed to upgrade their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership, and his trip to Beijing for the opening ceremony of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
As global uncertainties continue to rise, the strengthened partnership between China and Poland is poised to contribute positively to regional and international stability.
