Chinese President Xi Jinping has highlighted the critical importance of ecological conservation and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin during his recent inspection tour in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
On Wednesday, after completing his visit to Qinghai Province, Xi arrived in Ningxia, a region situated in the Yellow River Basin and surrounded by deserts on three sides. The area faces significant challenges in conserving and restoring its ecosystems due to its harsh environmental conditions.
During his tour, President Xi, who is also the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), emphasized the necessity for Ningxia to balance high-quality economic development with high-level environmental protection. He urged local authorities to pursue further reform and opening up, advance new urbanization strategies, promote rural revitalization, and foster ethnic unity and common prosperity.
The Yellow River, often referred to as the “Mother River” of China, is the country’s second-longest river and plays a vital role in the nation’s history and development. However, the river basin has been facing increasing ecological pressures due to overexploitation, pollution, and climate change.
Xi’s emphasis on the Yellow River Basin’s conservation underscores the Chinese government’s broader commitment to sustainable development and ecological preservation. By integrating environmental protection with economic growth, China aims to ensure long-term prosperity while safeguarding its natural heritage.
