In a significant move to bolster international relations, China’s Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang met with Belgium’s caretaker Prime Minister Alexander De Croo on Wednesday in Brussels. The high-level discussion focused on enhancing the longstanding partnership between China and Belgium, with both leaders expressing a strong commitment to deepen cooperation across various sectors.
Ding Xuexiang, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted the fruitful results of the China-Belgium all-round friendly cooperative partnership under the strategic guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Belgian leaders. He emphasized the importance of consolidating political mutual trust and expanding collaboration in economy, trade, science, technology, and green initiatives.
“Strengthening cultural and people-to-people exchanges will foster greater development of our bilateral relations and bring more benefits to the peoples of both countries,” Ding remarked. He also noted the shared interests of China and Belgium in opposing protectionism and safeguarding free trade, expressing hope that Belgium would play a constructive role in deepening practical cooperation between China and Europe.
Alexander De Croo affirmed Belgium’s commitment to its relationship with China and adherence to the one-China principle. “Belgium values its ties with China and is willing to enhance communication and deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields,” De Croo stated. He emphasized Belgium’s readiness to boost the sustainable development of Belgium-China and Europe-China relations.
