At the 39th China-EU Human Rights Dialogue held on June 16 in Chongqing, Chinese representatives presented a comprehensive overview of China’s human rights perspectives and achievements. The dialogue provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions on a wide range of human rights developments between China and the European Union.
Prior to the dialogue, EU diplomats visited the southwestern Xizang Autonomous Region from June 13 to 15, gaining firsthand insights into the region’s cultural and social advancements.
On June 17, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Miao Deyu met with Paola Pampaloni, Deputy Director General for Asia and the Pacific of the European External Action Service (EEAS), in Beijing. Miao elaborated on China’s human rights philosophy, highlighting the nation’s commitment to serving the fundamental interests of its people.
“The Communist Party of China wholeheartedly serves the people, and we believe that developing and safeguarding the fundamental interests of our people is the greatest human right,” Miao stated. He emphasized that China’s approach to human rights aligns with its national conditions and has led to historic achievements.
Miao underscored China’s ongoing efforts to promote the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through Chinese modernization, which he noted would further enhance human rights protection in the country. He also expressed China’s opposition to politicizing human rights issues and applying double standards, advocating for mutual understanding and communication between China and Europe.
“We hope to strengthen communication with Europe to foster better mutual understanding,” Miao added.
The dialogue was co-chaired by Shen Bo, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, and Paola Pampaloni. Both sides engaged in constructive exchanges, aiming to advance the human rights dialogue between China and the EU.
