China has reiterated its support for all initiatives aimed at achieving peace in the Ukraine crisis. Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, Lin Jian, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized China's commitment to a fair and open stance regarding the ongoing conflict.
"We welcome and support all efforts conducive to the realization of peace," Lin stated, referencing a Ukraine peace conference scheduled in Switzerland over the weekend. He highlighted China's proactive communication with all involved parties, including Switzerland and Ukraine, to promote inclusive dialogue.
Despite its supportive stance, China announced it would not participate in the upcoming conference. According to Lin, the meeting has yet to fulfill three crucial elements: recognition from both Russia and Ukraine, equal participation of all parties, and the fair discussion of all peace plans. "These elements are essential for any meaningful progress towards peace," he noted.
On May 23, China and Brazil jointly issued a six-point agreement outlining a political settlement for the Ukraine crisis. The two nations called on relevant parties to adhere to three principles to deescalate the situation: avoiding the expansion of the battlefield, refraining from escalation or provocation, and maintaining dialogue alongside increasing humanitarian assistance.
The six-point common understanding also expressed firm opposition to the use of weapons of mass destruction, attacks on nuclear power plants, and dividing the world into isolated political or economic blocs. "These principles reflect the general expectations of the international community," Lin emphasized.
Lin revealed that more than 100 countries have responded positively to the joint agreement between China and Brazil. "We welcome more countries to support and endorse the six-point common understanding," he said, inviting global cooperation to foster peace in the region.
As the Ukraine crisis continues, China's stance underscores the importance of inclusive dialogue and fair negotiations. By promoting collective efforts and mutual recognition among all parties, China seeks to contribute constructively to the pursuit of peace.
