China Urges EU to Halt Anti-Subsidy Investigation into Electric Vehicles

China has called on the European Union to cease its anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese electric vehicles (EVs), warning that the probe could harm economic and trade relations between the two regions. Speaking at a regular press briefing on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized the importance of cooperation and the stability of industrial and supply chains.

“We urge the EU to halt this investigation as soon as possible to avoid damaging China-EU economic and trade cooperation,” Lin stated. He described the EU’s actions as a form of trade protectionism, citing numerous unreasonable and non-compliant practices in the investigation process. “The so-called Chinese subsidy projects they accuse are simply untenable,” he added.

Lin highlighted that China has repeatedly communicated its position on the matter, expressing strong opposition to the investigation. He warned that if the EU persists, China will take all necessary measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests. “We hope the EU will consider the broader picture of China-EU relations and make the right decision,” Lin concluded.
