China and Russia Deepen BRICS Collaboration for Global South Unity

China has expressed readiness to collaborate with Russia to strengthen the BRICS strategic partnership, enhance unity among Global South nations, and promote greater BRICS cooperation. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made these remarks on Monday during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, emphasized that the development of China-Russia relations is a strategic choice rooted in the fundamental interests of both countries. He stated that this partnership aligns with global trends and the spirit of the times, does not target any third party, and is resilient against external disruptions.

During the meeting, both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to advancing cooperation within the BRICS framework. They highlighted the importance of the BRICS alliance in fostering economic growth, enhancing political dialogue, and addressing global challenges collectively.

The discussions between China and Russia signal a concerted effort to bolster the influence of emerging economies on the world stage. By consolidating their strategic partnership, the two nations aim to contribute to a more balanced international order that reflects the voices and interests of developing countries.

The BRICS group, comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, represents a significant portion of the world’s population and economic output. Strengthening ties within this group is seen as a way to promote development and cooperation among its members and the wider Global South.
