In a significant move to bolster bilateral ties, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin in Beijing on Friday. The leaders emphasized the deepening of strategic mutual trust and the advancement of pragmatic cooperation between the two nations.
“China and Brazil are like-minded good friends and partners walking hand in hand,” President Xi remarked. “Our collaboration over the past year has not only promoted our respective developments but also effectively safeguarded the common interests of all developing countries.”
As two of the world’s largest developing countries and important emerging markets, China and Brazil share extensive common strategic interests. President Xi highlighted that their relationship transcends the bilateral scope, serving as a model for solidarity and cooperation among developing nations and contributing to global peace and stability.
The Chinese leader expressed willingness to consolidate cooperation in traditional areas and expand into emerging sectors such as the green economy, digital economy, and innovation. “China will strengthen the strategic alignment between the Belt and Road Initiative and Brazil’s re-industrialization efforts,” Xi stated. He also underscored the importance of enhancing exchanges in culture, education, tourism, and youth engagements.
Vice President Alckmin welcomed Chinese investment in Brazil, calling for strengthened cooperation in infrastructure, agriculture, mineral resources, new energy vehicles, and combating climate change. “Brazil and China are committed to defending multilateralism and free trade,” Alckmin said. “We share common philosophies on many important issues and see great potential and prospects for cooperation.”
Marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Alckmin expressed Brazil’s intent to use this milestone as a new starting point. “We are ready to work with China in close strategic coordination and elevate our ties to new heights,” he added.
Both leaders affirmed their commitment to collaborating within international frameworks and organizations, including the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), to promote further development of China-Latin America relations in the new era.
