China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has voiced strong opposition to the United States’ blockade against Cuba, emphasizing the enduring friendship and shared vision between Beijing and Havana. On Thursday, Wang met with Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, the Special Envoy of the Cuban President and Minister of Foreign Affairs, in Beijing, where both leaders committed to strengthening bilateral relations.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, praised Cuba for its steadfastness in upholding truth and standing against external pressures. He acknowledged Cuba’s consistent support for China’s legitimate positions on international platforms and reaffirmed China’s solidarity with Cuba in defending its national sovereignty.
“China and Cuba are good friends who trust each other and share the same vision,” Wang stated. He underscored the importance of building a China-Cuba community with a shared future and expressed China’s readiness to deepen cooperation. Wang highlighted that enhancing the special friendship between the two nations would contribute to promoting the cause of socialism and safeguarding world peace.
Rodríguez expressed heartfelt appreciation for China’s unwavering support in helping Cuba resist external interference and overcome economic challenges. “The special friendly relations between Cuba and China enjoy profound public support between our two peoples,” he remarked. Rodríguez reiterated Cuba’s firm adherence to the one-China principle and emphasized the priority of jointly advancing the Belt and Road Initiative.
“Cuba is willing to work with China to build a Cuba-China community with a shared future,” Rodríguez said. He highlighted the shared goal of safeguarding the sovereignty and independence of developing countries and promoting the cause of socialism.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on strengthening China-Latin America cooperation and addressing other issues of common concern.
