China’s Wang Yi Urges Global Support for Peaceful Resolution of Ukraine Conflict

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called on more countries to support a political settlement of the Ukraine crisis, emphasizing the importance of peace talks and diplomatic efforts. Wang made the remarks during a joint press conference with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Beijing on Tuesday.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, stated that China remains committed to promoting dialogue and peace. “The sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries should be respected,” he said. “All efforts beneficial to peacefully solving the crisis should be supported.”

He highlighted China’s appreciation for Switzerland’s role in preparing for a peace conference, noting that China has offered constructive suggestions, which have received positive feedback from the Swiss side. Wang stressed that China will independently decide its participation in international conferences, underscoring the need for objective and balanced voices on the Ukraine issue.

To advance the peace process, Wang Yi mentioned that China and Brazil have recently issued six common understandings for the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis. These consensuses call on all relevant parties to observe three principles for de-escalating the situation: no expansion of the battlefield, no escalation of fighting, and no provocation by any party.

The consensuses also oppose the use of nuclear weapons and attacks on nuclear power plants and other peaceful nuclear facilities. According to Wang, the Turkish side has welcomed these agreements. “The consensuses received positive responses from 45 countries across five continents, with 26 countries confirming participation or exploring ways to join,” he said.

Wang Yi noted that both Russia and Ukraine have acknowledged most of the consensuses, demonstrating that the six points reflect the common aspirations of the international community. “China welcomes more countries to support and join the six common understandings,” he added.
