Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Meets U.S. Officials to Enhance Bilateral Relations

Washington, D.C. – On Thursday, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu held significant meetings with U.S. Principal Deputy National Security Advisor Jon Finer and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. The discussions aimed at reinforcing the China-U.S. relationship amidst global and regional challenges.

Ma and Finer engaged in frank, in-depth, and constructive communication on the current state of China-U.S. relations, addressing international and regional issues of common concern. Ma emphasized China’s solemn position on matters related to the Taiwan region and the South China Sea, urging the U.S. to honor President Joe Biden’s commitment to effectively respect China’s sovereignty, security, and development interests.

The meetings underscored the importance of implementing the consensus reached by the two heads of state during their recent meeting in San Francisco. Both sides agreed to strengthen high-level exchanges and all-level communication, expand cooperation, and manage differences to stabilize and develop bilateral ties.

In his meeting with Sullivan, Ma exchanged views on pivotal issues concerning bilateral relations, reaffirming the commitment to dialogue and mutual understanding.

These engagements reflect a mutual desire to navigate complexities and enhance collaboration between China and the United States, pivotal players in global affairs.
