Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasized the necessity of the two-state solution to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, pledging substantial assistance for Gaza’s humanitarian crisis and post-conflict reconstruction. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 10th ministerial meeting of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum on Thursday, Xi called for justice and an immediate ceasefire.
“War should not continue indefinitely. Justice should not be absent forever. Commitment to the two-state solution should not be wavered at will,” Xi declared, stressing the urgent need for a peaceful resolution.
He affirmed China’s firm support for the establishment of an independent State of Palestine, enjoying full sovereignty based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. Xi also expressed support for Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations and advocated for a more inclusive, authoritative, and effective international peace conference to ease the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
In a significant move to alleviate the humanitarian situation in Gaza, President Xi pledged an additional 500 million yuan (approximately $68.5 million) in assistance. This is on top of a previous 100 million yuan (about $13.8 million) of emergency humanitarian aid, aiming to support the humanitarian crisis relief and post-conflict reconstruction efforts.
Additionally, he announced a $3 million donation to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East to support its emergency humanitarian assistance in Gaza.
The China-Arab States Cooperation Forum serves as a vital platform for enhancing political, economic, and cultural ties between China and Arab nations. President Xi’s commitments highlight China’s proactive role in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East.
