Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi Meets Mauritanian Counterpart in Beijing

In a significant move to bolster Sino-Mauritanian relations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Mauritania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Salem Ould Merzouk, in Beijing on Wednesday. The meeting coincided with the 10th ministerial meeting of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum, highlighting China’s ongoing commitment to strengthening ties with Arab nations.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, reaffirmed China’s steadfast support for Mauritania’s pursuit of a development path aligned with its national conditions. He emphasized China’s opposition to any external interference in Mauritania’s internal affairs, underscoring respect for national sovereignty and mutual cooperation.

“China is prepared to continue providing assistance within our capacity to support Mauritania’s economic and social development,” Wang stated. He expressed China’s readiness to collaborate closely with Mauritania to consolidate and expand China-Arab collective cooperation, signaling a deepening of bilateral and multilateral relations.

Minister Merzouk expressed Mauritania’s firm adherence to the one-China principle, acknowledging the importance of China’s role in global affairs. “Mauritania is eager to work with China to advance Arab-China and Africa-China relations,” Merzouk remarked. He emphasized the shared goal of promoting a community with a shared future for humanity.

The meeting between the two ministers reflects a mutual commitment to enhancing diplomatic ties and cooperation across various sectors. As China continues to strengthen its relationships with Arab and African nations, such engagements are pivotal in fostering regional stability and development.

The discussions are expected to pave the way for increased collaboration in areas such as trade, infrastructure, and cultural exchange, contributing to the prosperity of both nations and the broader region.
