Beijing, October 18, 2023 — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has reaffirmed China’s commitment to enhancing practical cooperation with Morocco, aiming to elevate the strategic partnership between the two nations to new heights. The announcement was made during a meeting on Wednesday with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, who is visiting Beijing to attend the 10th Ministerial Conference of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, emphasized China’s support for Morocco in safeguarding its national security and stability. “China stands ready to work with Morocco to promote the upgrading of practical cooperation and open up broader prospects for our strategic partnership,” Wang stated.
The two officials discussed ways to align their countries’ development strategies and deepen collaboration across various sectors. Wang Yi expressed appreciation for Morocco’s support of the Global Development Initiative (GDI) and its participation in the Group of Friends of the GDI. He welcomed Morocco’s continued active involvement in the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, highlighting the importance of building a community with a shared future for humanity.
Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita noted the longstanding friendship between Morocco and China, acknowledging the success of their cooperation in recent years. He affirmed Morocco’s willingness to strengthen ties and contribute to regional and global development initiatives.
The meeting underscored the growing ties between China and Morocco, reflecting a mutual desire to expand economic, cultural, and political cooperation. Analysts view this development as a positive step toward enhanced relations between China and countries in the Arab world.
