Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein on Wednesday in Beijing to reinforce bilateral ties and uphold shared interests of developing nations.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, emphasized China’s readiness to stand with Iraq in upholding fundamental principles of international relations, including non-interference in each other’s internal affairs. “China is committed to safeguarding the common interests of developing countries alongside Iraq,” Wang stated during the meeting.
Fuad Hussein arrived in Beijing to attend the 10th Ministerial Conference of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum, symbolizing the strengthening ties between China and Arab nations. Iraq, as one of the first Arab states to establish diplomatic relations with China, plays a pivotal role in this partnership.
Wang Yi highlighted China’s support for Iraq in maintaining its national sovereignty, security, unity, and territorial integrity. He affirmed China’s commitment to assisting the Iraqi government in economic development, improving the livelihood of its people, and combating terrorism. “China opposes any foreign interference in Iraq’s internal affairs,” Wang added, reinforcing the principle of mutual respect and support.
The meeting underscored the mutual interest in enhancing cooperation within the framework of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum and addressing regional challenges collaboratively.
