Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol in Seoul on Sunday, calling for the steady development of China-South Korea relations. Emphasizing the importance of mutual trust and respect for each other’s core interests, Li urged both nations to strengthen their friendly ties and collaborative achievements.
Li highlighted the deep interconnection of the industrial and supply chains between China and South Korea. He encouraged both countries to seize development opportunities together, particularly in areas such as high-end manufacturing, new energy, artificial intelligence, and biomedicine. “China is ready to deepen cooperation with South Korea in these sectors,” Li said.
The Chinese premier also assured that China would further expand market access and enhance guarantees for foreign investment, welcoming South Korean companies to invest in China. He stressed the importance of keeping economic and trade issues separate from political or security concerns to maintain stable and smooth industrial and supply chains globally.
On multilateral cooperation, Li expressed China’s willingness to strengthen coordination with South Korea to jointly promote world peace and development.
President Yoon Suk-yeol reaffirmed South Korea’s adherence to the one-China principle, stating that this position remains unchanged. He expressed a commitment to expanding economic and trade cooperation with China, strengthening people-to-people exchanges, and deepening cooperation among South Korea, China, and Japan. “We aim to promote further development of South Korea-China ties,” Yoon said.
Both leaders agreed to accelerate the second phase of Free Trade Agreement negotiations between their countries. They also concurred on launching high-level diplomatic and security dialogues at an appropriate time, promoting youth and cultural exchanges, and facilitating easier travel between their peoples.
Premier Li arrived in Seoul to attend the ninth trilateral summit meeting of China, Japan, and South Korea.
