China and Cambodia have reaffirmed their commitment to regional peace and bolstered bilateral cooperation during a meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sok Chenda Sophea in Beijing on Friday.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, expressed China’s readiness to strengthen coordination with Cambodia. He emphasized the importance of promoting mutually beneficial cooperation and sharing development opportunities between the two nations.
“We are prepared to advance the construction of the Industrial Development Corridor and the Fish and Rice Corridor, and to explore the potential of water conservancy projects,” Wang said. He added that China encourages more Chinese enterprises to invest in Cambodia and is willing to share experiences in building special economic zones.
Sok Chenda Sophea reaffirmed Cambodia’s firm adherence to the one-China principle and support for China’s efforts to safeguard its core interests. “Cambodia is ready to promote pragmatic cooperation with China and will facilitate a favorable environment for Chinese companies to invest in our country,” he stated.
Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including agriculture, infrastructure construction, connectivity, the digital economy, artificial intelligence, special economic zones, and human resources development. They also committed to deepening people-to-people exchanges in education, tourism, youth, and vocational training.
Highlighting the upcoming China-Cambodia People-to-People Exchange Year 2024, Wang emphasized the importance of consolidating the public foundation of the China-Cambodia community with a shared future. He also expressed China’s willingness to work with regional countries, including Cambodia, to overcome external disruptions and safeguard the common and legitimate interests of nations in the region.
This meeting underscores the strong ties between China and Cambodia and their shared vision for regional stability and prosperity.
