Astana, Kazakhstan—Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Kyrgyz counterpart Jeenbek Kulubaev on Monday during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs meeting in Astana. The two leaders discussed strengthening bilateral relations and deepening cooperation across various sectors.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized the importance of building a China-Kyrgyzstan community with a shared future. He urged both countries to deepen political mutual trust and expand mutually beneficial cooperation, highlighting high-quality Belt and Road initiatives as a focal point.
“China is willing to strengthen economic and trade cooperation with Kyrgyzstan, expand connectivity, and promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges,” Wang Yi stated. “We aim to build a China-Kyrgyzstan community of shared future through concrete actions.”
He also expressed appreciation for Kyrgyzstan’s support for China’s position following the outcomes of the Taiwan regional leadership election.
Jeenbek Kulubaev reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan’s firm adherence to the one-China principle and its support on issues related to Xinjiang, Xizang, and Hong Kong. “Kyrgyzstan looks forward to intensifying high-level exchanges with China, increasing the scale of trade, facilitating people-to-people exchanges, and consolidating cooperation within multilateral mechanisms,” he said.
The Kyrgyz Foreign Minister invited more Chinese enterprises to invest in Kyrgyzstan and expressed willingness to sign an intergovernmental agreement with China and Uzbekistan to commence construction of a railway connecting the three countries at an early date.
The meeting underscores the growing partnership between China and Kyrgyzstan, signaling a shared commitment to regional development and cooperation through platforms like the SCO and the Belt and Road Initiative.
