During a meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Astana, Kazakhstan, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed China’s firm opposition to the unilateral sanctions imposed on Belarus by the United States and other Western countries.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met with Belarusian Foreign Minister Sergei Aleinik on Monday. He emphasized China’s support for the Belarusian people in choosing their own development path, opposing any external interference in Belarus’s internal affairs.
“Mutual support on international and multilateral platforms not only safeguards the legitimate rights and interests of both sides but also upholds international fairness and justice,” Wang Yi stated. He called for strengthened coordination between China and Belarus within international and regional mechanisms such as the United Nations, the SCO, and BRICS.
Wang Yi highlighted China’s willingness to collaborate with Belarus to implement the important consensus reached by their heads of state. He underscored the need to intensify mutual political support, deepen cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, and continue close collaboration in international affairs.
Belarusian Foreign Minister Sergei Aleinik expressed readiness to align Belarus’s development strategies with China’s. “Belarus aims to achieve strategic mutual trust, enhance political cooperation, and promote common economic development with China,” Aleinik said.
He also affirmed Belarus’s unwavering support for China’s positions on issues related to Taiwan, Xinjiang, Xizang, and the South China Sea. “Belarus will, as always, fully support China’s stance on these critical matters,” Aleinik stressed.
