China Reaffirms ‘One China’ Stance Amid Changes in Taiwan’s Political Landscape

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has reaffirmed that no matter how the political situation on the island of Taiwan changes, it does not alter the historical and legal facts that both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one China. On Monday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin emphasized that the reunification of China is an unstoppable historical trend.

Wang noted that the one-China principle is a general consensus within the international community and aligns with the basic norms of international relations. He stated that this principle serves as the political foundation and premise for China to develop relations with other countries.

According to Wang, the vast majority of countries, as well as international and regional organizations, stand firmly with the Chinese government and people. They support China’s efforts to oppose ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist activities and to strive for national reunification, he said.

He criticized certain politicians from a few countries for engaging in political manipulation and ‘personal shows’ on Taiwan-related issues, which seriously interfere in China’s internal affairs and violate the one-China principle. “China strongly condemns such moves and will take all necessary measures to firmly safeguard its national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Wang stated.

Wang concluded by asserting that “Taiwan independence” is doomed to a dead end. “The general trend of history is unstoppable,” he said, adding, “The day will come when China is completely reunified.”
