Astana, Kazakhstan — In a significant move to bolster regional cooperation, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee. The meeting took place on Monday in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.
Wang Yi emphasized the strong ties between the two nations, stating that China and Kazakhstan, connected by mountains and rivers, are good neighbors, friends, and partners. He conveyed China’s firm support for Kazakhstan’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, opposing any external interference in Kazakhstan’s internal affairs. “China will always be a trustworthy and reliable friend and partner of Kazakhstan,” Wang Yi affirmed.
Highlighting the broader impact of China’s development, Wang Yi noted that it represents a growing peaceful force in the world, enhancing stability and strengthening the capabilities of developing countries and emerging economies. He expressed that China’s development brings new opportunities to countries like Kazakhstan.
In 2023, the leaders of both countries established the goal of building a China-Kazakhstan community with a shared future, setting a new benchmark for bilateral relations and providing fresh momentum. Wang Yi expressed China’s willingness to support Kazakhstan in diversifying its economic development, promoting cooperation in emerging industries such as e-commerce, new energy, and artificial intelligence.
On multilateral cooperation, Wang Yi stressed the importance of enhancing coordination within frameworks including the China-Central Asia mechanism, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the United Nations to promote regional stability and development.
President Tokayev reiterated Kazakhstan’s commitment to the one-China policy, assuring that Kazakhstan will continue to be a good partner and friend that China can always rely on under all circumstances. He expressed eagerness to strengthen high-level exchanges, enhance the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, deepen practical cooperation, and expand cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
This meeting marks a significant step in deepening the strategic partnership between China and Kazakhstan, with both nations poised to work closely on shared goals and mutual development.
