88% of Latin America and Caribbean Respondents Recognize Taiwan Region as Part of China: Survey

A recent survey conducted by CGTN has revealed that over 88 percent of respondents from Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) view Taiwan region as an inalienable part of Chinese territory. Additionally, 87 percent believe that relevant LAC countries should sever their “diplomatic ties” with Taiwan and establish relations with China.

The survey polled 6,406 individuals across the LAC region to gauge their understanding of the Taiwan question. Respondents expressed common views on resolving the issue, acknowledging the efforts of the Chinese government in implementing unification policies and plans. Many noted that China’s “strategic patience” is an effective tactic for promoting peaceful unification.

There was also a strong emphasis on avoiding external intervention, particularly by the United States, as respondents expressed concerns that such involvement could deteriorate the situation in Taiwan region. Instead, they called for adherence to diplomatic efforts and peaceful means to resolve the Taiwan question.

Furthermore, the respondents highlighted the importance of bringing the two sides of the Taiwan Strait closer through economic and cultural ties, fostering mutual understanding and cooperation.
