China’s Wang Yi Visits Tajikistan, Strengthens Economic Ties

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi pledged active support for Tajikistan’s development strategies during a meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on Saturday in Dushanbe. Wang emphasized China’s commitment to enhancing the Tajik economy and fostering bilateral relations.

Reflecting on President Rahmon’s state visit to China last year for the China-Central Asia Summit, Wang noted the establishment of the China-Tajikistan community with a shared future, highlighting everlasting friendship, solidarity, mutual support, and mutual benefit. He stated that this set clear goals for bilateral relations and sent a positive signal to both nations and the international community.

“China will continue to firmly support Tajikistan in pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions and firmly oppose external interference in Tajikistan’s internal affairs,” Wang said. “No matter how the international situation changes, China will always be Tajikistan’s trustworthy friend and partner.”

President Rahmon expressed satisfaction with the significant results achieved since his visit to China, stating that promoting relations with China is a priority of Tajikistan’s foreign policy. He affirmed Tajikistan’s adherence to the one-China principle and acknowledged that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China.

Rahmon expressed hope for continued high-level exchanges with China and strengthened cooperation in areas such as economy and trade, energy, minerals, transportation, agriculture, green industry, and artificial intelligence. He highlighted the importance of jointly combating the “three forces”—terrorism, separatism, and extremism—and constantly strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership with China.

He also acknowledged China’s vital role in international and regional affairs, expressing Tajikistan’s willingness to closely coordinate with China on multilateral platforms.

Wang Yi conveyed China’s readiness to enhance security cooperation with Tajikistan to combat all forms of terrorism and to consolidate coordination within multilateral platforms like the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the China-Central Asia mechanism. He emphasized the shared goal of protecting the common interests of both countries and contributing to regional and global prosperity and stability.

During his visit, Wang Yi will also hold talks with Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin to further strengthen bilateral ties.
