Chinese Premier Li Qiang has called for deeper cooperation between China and Russia to promote common development and benefit both nations’ peoples. Premier Li met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday during Putin’s two-day state visit to China.

Highlighting the strong ties between the two countries, Premier Li emphasized that China is ready to work with Russia to deepen cooperation in various fields. “China and Russia, while upholding the principles of non-alliance, non-confrontation, and not targeting any third party, have developed bilateral relations and steadily advanced practical cooperation in various areas in recent years,” Li said.

He noted the booming people-to-people and local exchanges, which have consolidated the friendly social and public opinion foundation between the two countries. “This sets an example of peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation between major countries,” Premier Li added.

Deepening Economic and Cultural Ties

Premier Li proposed that China and Russia deepen cooperation in the Belt and Road Initiative and the Eurasian Economic Union, collaborating to advance regional economic integration. He pledged to continue improving trade liberalization and facilitation, and to deepen cooperation in the economy, trade, energy, connectivity, and other fields.

He also called on both sides to take the China-Russia Years of Culture as an opportunity to further advance cooperation in cultural tourism, sports, youth, and medicine, enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples.

President Putin expressed that Russia-China relations, based on mutual equality and benefits, are in line with the interests of both countries and their peoples. “Bilateral relations have now reached their highest level,” Putin stated.

He vowed to further enhance cooperation in trade, energy, agriculture, and infrastructure, and to deepen people-to-people exchanges. “We aim to push the comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for the new era to a new stage,” President Putin said.
