In a heartfelt reply to villagers living near the iconic Badaling Great Wall in Beijing’s Yanqing District, Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for increased efforts to promote and protect the Great Wall, encouraging collective responsibility to preserve this precious heritage for future generations.
Residents of Shixia Village recently wrote to President Xi, sharing their initiatives in safeguarding the Great Wall and the positive changes within their community. In his response, dated Tuesday, Xi expressed his pleasure in learning about their dedication to protecting the Great Wall, inheriting its culture, and utilizing its resources to enhance their prosperity.
“The Great Wall is a symbol of the Chinese nation and an important emblem of Chinese civilization,” Xi stated. “It is our common responsibility to protect and pass on this historical and cultural heritage.”
He urged the villagers to continue treating the Great Wall as they would their own homes, to carry forward its culture, and to share its stories with the world. By doing so, they can contribute to building a strong socialist culture in China and advancing Chinese modernization.
Since 2012, Xi Jinping has shown a strong commitment to the preservation and promotion of the Great Wall’s cultural values.
