China Calls for Comprehensive and Lasting Solution to Palestinian Issue

On Wednesday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with the international community to promote a comprehensive, just, and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue. The announcement comes on the 76th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba day, a significant day marking the “catastrophe” that followed Israel’s declaration of independence in 1948.

During a regular press briefing, Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin highlighted the historical plight of the Palestinian people. “More than half of the Palestinians fled or were driven from their homes during the Arab-Israeli war 76 years ago,” Wang noted. “Today, 76 years later, the historical injustice suffered by the Palestinian people not only hasn’t been corrected but has been further exacerbated.”

Wang emphasized China’s firm opposition to the expansion of the conflict into Rafah and the collective punishment of the people in Gaza. According to the United Nations, nearly 450,000 Palestinians have left Rafah as hostilities intensify in the Gaza Strip.

“China backs the establishment of an independent state of Palestine that enjoys full sovereignty based on the 1967 borders and with east Jerusalem as its capital,” Wang stated. He also expressed support for Palestine in becoming a full member state of the United Nations.

Concluding his remarks, Wang affirmed China’s commitment to working alongside the international community. “China will continue to work to ultimately realize Israeli-Palestinian peaceful coexistence and harmonious coexistence of the Arab and Jewish nations,” he said.
