China’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, emphasized the significance of the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in fostering global cooperation during a briefing in New York on Thursday. The meeting was held in anticipation of the seventh CIIE and the Hongqiao International Economic Forum.
“The CIIE is a platform for sharing development opportunities,” Fu stated, highlighting China’s commitment to multilateralism and South-South cooperation. He noted that the expo enables some of the world’s least developed countries to showcase their products in China, spurring investment and industrial development, and supporting the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Fu also elaborated on the objectives of the Hongqiao International Economic Forum, underscoring its focus on seeking solutions for sustainable development, scientific innovation, food safety, and digital and energy transition. He emphasized that these goals align closely with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
The upcoming CIIE and the Hongqiao Forum are expected to draw participants worldwide, including business professionals, investors, academics, and representatives from various sectors. These events aim to enhance international collaboration and contribute to Asia’s dynamic role in global affairs.
