Chinese and Vietnamese Coast Guards Complete First Joint Patrol of 2024 in Beibu Gulf

Chinese and Vietnamese coast guards have successfully completed their first joint patrol of 2024 in the Beibu Gulf, marking the 27th such collaboration between the two nations since 2006. Conducted from Saturday to Monday, the three-day operation underscores a continued commitment to maritime cooperation and regional stability in the South China Sea.

The joint patrol involved two vessels from the China Coast Guard (CCG) and two ships from the Vietnam Coast Guard (VCG). The teams observed and inspected fishing boats from both countries while navigating along predetermined routes in the Beibu Gulf waters, according to a statement released by the CCG on Tuesday.

Since initiating these joint patrols in 2006, the CCG and VCG have collaborated twice annually, establishing a model of maritime law enforcement cooperation in the South China Sea. This ongoing partnership has played a pivotal role in protecting fishery resources, maintaining orderly fishery production, combating maritime crimes, and safeguarding regional security and stability.

“The CCG will continue to enhance exchanges and practical cooperation with the Vietnamese side to properly handle maritime emergencies and jointly maintain maritime security and stability,” the statement emphasized.

The successful completion of this joint patrol not only strengthens the ties between China and Vietnam but also contributes to peace and stability in the region, benefiting the broader Asian maritime community.
