China Urges Philippines to Halt Provocative Actions in South China Sea

China has called on the Philippines to cease what it describes as provocative actions infringing on China’s rights in the South China Sea. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized China’s firm determination to safeguard its sovereignty during a regular press briefing on Tuesday.

“We urge the Philippine side to immediately stop provocative actions that infringe on China’s rights and refrain from challenging China’s steadfast resolve to protect its sovereignty,” Lin stated.

The remarks came in response to an incident involving the Chinese Coast Guard and two Philippine vessels near Huangyan Dao. According to Lin, the Chinese Coast Guard expelled the Philippine vessels after they intruded into waters adjacent to Huangyan Dao, an area over which China asserts historical claims.

Huangyan Dao, also known as Scarborough Shoal, has been a focal point of longstanding maritime disputes between China and the Philippines. The area is rich in fishing resources and holds strategic significance for navigation and regional security.

Lin reiterated China’s position on the South China Sea, highlighting the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region through dialogue and mutual respect. “We hope the Philippine side will work with China to manage differences appropriately and uphold the overall situation of regional peace,” he added.

The incident underscores the ongoing tensions in the South China Sea, where multiple nations have overlapping territorial claims. The area is a vital waterway for global trade and has become a flashpoint for international diplomatic and security concerns.
