China’s Wang Yi Advocates for Palestinian Reconciliation and Regional Peace

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has expressed China’s strong support for internal reconciliation among different Palestinian factions through dialogue. In a written interview with Al Jazeera Media Network published on Thursday, Wang Yi addressed a range of issues, including the Gaza conflict, regional stability, and international relations.

Support for Palestinian Cause

Amid the ongoing Gaza crisis, Wang Yi emphasized China’s commitment to the just cause of the Palestinian people in restoring their legitimate national rights. He stated, “China will continue to strengthen solidarity and cooperation with Middle East countries and the whole international community to support the Palestinian people’s pursuit of their legitimate national rights.”

Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s support for Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations and the establishment of an independent State of Palestine, advocating for “the Palestinians governing Palestine.” He called for a more inclusive and effective international peace conference to set a timetable and roadmap for the two-state solution. “We aim to promote a comprehensive, just, and lasting settlement of the Palestinian question, ultimately realizing peaceful coexistence between Israel and Palestine,” he added.

Concern Over Red Sea Tensions

The foreign minister expressed deep concern over rising tensions in the Red Sea, which have impacted the interests of regional countries and heightened global security risks. “We stand ready to coordinate more closely with regional countries and work together with the international community to restore peace and stability in the Red Sea at an early date,” Wang Yi said.

He clarified that the Chinese Navy’s escort mission in the Gulf of Aden and the waters off Somalia is authorized by the UN Security Council and is not related to the Red Sea situation.

Stance on Ukraine Crisis

Addressing the Ukraine crisis, Wang Yi noted that China’s position is consistent, unequivocal, and transparent. He elaborated on China’s efforts to promote a ceasefire and end the conflict, stating, “We will work constructively with all parties to promote a political settlement of the crisis and contribute to regional tranquility and enduring world peace.”

The Taiwan Question and China-U.S. Relations

Wang Yi reiterated that Taiwan has been an inseparable part of China since ancient times and that the Taiwan question is entirely China’s internal affair. “We will strive for peaceful reunification with the utmost effort and greatest sincerity. In the meantime, our bottom line is clear: we will absolutely not allow anyone to separate Taiwan from China in any way,” he affirmed.

Regarding China-U.S. relations and the upcoming U.S. election, Wang Yi stated that the election is an internal affair of the United States, and China does not interfere in other countries’ internal affairs. “The China-U.S. relationship cannot go back to its past, but it should and can have a bright future. China is ready to work with the United States to carry out more win-win cooperation, do more that benefits the whole world, and truly fulfill our respective responsibilities to the international community,” he concluded.
