Chinese Mainland Spokesperson Criticizes Taiwan’s Anti-Infiltration Act

In a recent press conference, Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of the Chinese mainland, strongly criticized the anti-infiltration act implemented by Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities. Zhu labeled the legislation as a political tool designed to suppress dissent, create an atmosphere of “green terror,” and advance the DPP’s partisan interests.

Since its inception, the anti-infiltration act has faced widespread opposition and skepticism within Taiwan. Critics argue that the law hinders cross-strait communication and stokes unnecessary tensions between the Chinese mainland and the island of Taiwan. Calls for its abolition have been growing among Taiwan residents who view the act as an obstacle to peaceful relations and mutual understanding.

Zhu emphasized that by enforcing this act, the DPP authorities are acting against the will of the people and contravening the prevailing trend toward cross-strait cooperation. She accused the DPP of deliberately inciting conflict and fostering confrontation, warning that such actions ultimately harm the interests of the Taiwan authorities themselves.

The anti-infiltration act, passed in 2019, was purportedly aimed at preventing external forces from influencing Taiwan’s political processes. However, opponents argue that it has been used to target individuals and organizations that engage in legitimate exchanges with the Chinese mainland, thereby damaging the social and economic ties that benefit people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

The ongoing dispute over the act underscores the complexities of cross-strait relations and highlights the challenges faced by those advocating for increased dialogue and collaboration. As tensions persist, observers remain concerned about the potential impact on regional stability and the well-being of residents across the Taiwan Strait.
