In a gesture of diplomacy and mutual respect, China’s top legislator, Zhao Leji, extended heartfelt congratulations to Mexico’s Senate on its 200th anniversary. Speaking via video message on April 23, Zhao, chairman of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, emphasized the strengthening ties between China and Mexico over the past five decades.
“Since establishing diplomatic relations more than 50 years ago, China and Mexico have deepened political mutual trust and achieved fruitful results in practical cooperation, bringing tangible benefits to our peoples,” Zhao remarked.
Highlighting the increasingly strategic and mutually beneficial nature of the bilateral relationship, Zhao expressed China’s willingness to collaborate with Mexico to enhance strategic alignment, explore cooperation potential, and leverage complementary advantages. He underscored the importance of enriching the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.
Zhao also called for enhanced exchanges between the legislative bodies of China and Mexico. He suggested that the National People’s Congress and Mexico’s Senate increase multi-level interactions across various fields, share experiences in legislation and oversight, and provide legal support for mutually beneficial cooperation. “By strengthening our legislative exchanges, we can consolidate the social and public foundation for China-Mexico friendly relations,” he said.
Looking beyond bilateral ties, Zhao expressed China’s readiness to enhance multilateral cooperation with Mexico and other Latin American countries. He advocated for an equal and orderly multipolar world and an inclusive economic globalization that benefits all nations. “China is committed to upholding international fairness and justice, safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries, and promoting the steady and sustained progress of China-Mexico and China-Latin America relations,” he stated.
Zhao concluded by emphasizing the shared future between China and Latin America, expressing hope for building a community with a shared destiny and deeper cooperation on the global stage.
