China and Indonesia Deepen Strategic Partnership as Wang Yi Meets Retno Marsudi

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in Jakarta on Thursday, marking a significant step in enhancing the strategic partnership between China and Indonesia.

During his official visit, Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, expressed China’s readiness to deepen strategic mutual trust and work towards building a China-Indonesia community with a shared future.

He emphasized the importance of implementing the action plan on comprehensive strategic partnership and pushing bilateral ties to a new stage of development. “China supports Indonesia in safeguarding its national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Wang Yi stated, reaffirming mutual support on each other’s core interests.

The two leaders agreed to strengthen the synergy between their development strategies, aiming to upgrade practical cooperation under the framework of high-quality Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) collaboration. Wang Yi highlighted China’s willingness to encourage Chinese enterprises to invest and conduct business in Indonesia.

He also mentioned that China is prepared to increase imports of high-quality Indonesian products in line with market demand. Wang Yi expressed hope that Indonesia will maintain the stability and predictability of its commodity export policies, creating a favorable environment for Chinese enterprises.

Furthermore, Wang Yi conveyed China’s willingness to work closely with Indonesia to promote the high-quality development of China-ASEAN relations, consolidate the ASEAN-led regional architecture, and safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea.

Retno Marsudi reaffirmed the Indonesian government’s commitment to strengthening ties with China and reiterated adherence to the one-China policy. She expressed Indonesia’s eagerness to enhance economic and investment cooperation, jointly combat transnational crimes such as telecommunication fraud, and maintain regional peace and security.

The meeting underscores the commitment of both nations to deepening their comprehensive strategic partnership and collaborating on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
