China has called for an immediate ceasefire in the ongoing Gaza conflict and pledged to continue playing a constructive role in resolving the Middle East issue, according to a spokesperson from the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
Speaking at a regular press conference on Friday, spokesperson Mao Ning discussed Thursday’s phone conversation between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken. During the call, Wang strongly condemned the attack on the Iranian embassy in Syria, emphasizing that the security of diplomatic institutions is inviolable and that the sovereignty of Iran and Syria should be respected.
Mao noted that the recent escalation is the latest manifestation of the spillover from the Gaza conflict, highlighting the urgent need to de-escalate the situation. “It’s imperative that the conflict be put to rest as soon as possible,” she stated.
The spokesperson urged all parties involved to earnestly implement relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, immediately cease fire, stop fighting, and halt the humanitarian crisis.
“China will continue to play a constructive role in resolving the Middle East issue on its own merits and contribute to cooling down the situation,” Mao affirmed.
