China and the Federated States of Micronesia have announced a new chapter in their bilateral relations, with Micronesia joining China’s high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. The decision was formalized in a joint statement issued by both countries on Wednesday.
The People’s Republic of China welcomed Micronesia’s participation and expressed willingness to collaborate on a range of practical areas, including fisheries, infrastructure development, tropical agriculture, aviation and maritime transportation, as well as green and low-carbon initiatives.
The joint statement highlighted the mutual agreement to expand exchanges and cooperation in education, health, human resources, tourism, and media. China also welcomed more specialty products from Micronesia to enter the Chinese market, encouraging new offerings such as fish products under favorable market access arrangements.
Both nations affirmed their commitment to promoting multilateralism and international cooperation. They agreed to collaborate under the frameworks of the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, aiming to advance humanity’s shared values of peace, development, fairness, justice, democracy, and freedom.
This strengthened partnership signifies a deepening of ties between China and Micronesia, fostering greater connectivity and shared prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.
