China and Russia Vow to Strengthen Practical Cooperation Across Various Fields

In a significant diplomatic engagement, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Beijing on Tuesday. The high-level talks culminated in a mutual commitment to enhance practical cooperation across various sectors, signaling a deepening partnership between the two neighboring nations.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, conveyed his congratulations to President Vladimir Putin on his recent reelection. He emphasized China’s steadfast support for Russia’s development and revitalization under President Putin’s leadership, acknowledging the Russian people’s autonomous choice of development path.

“China-Russia relations have been of irreplaceable value in maintaining global strategic stability,” Wang stated. “Maintaining and developing sound China-Russia relations is the natural choice of our two major neighboring countries and serves the fundamental interests of our peoples.”

Highlighting the importance of synergy between the two nations’ development plans, Wang expressed China’s willingness to collaborate closely with Russia. “We are prepared to work in accordance with the consensus reached by our heads of state, to strengthen the alignment of our development strategies and promote practical cooperation in various fields,” he said.

Sergey Lavrov echoed these sentiments, noting that Russia-China relations are founded on mutual respect, equal cooperation, and trustworthy dialogue. He affirmed Russia’s adherence to the one-China principle and expressed a desire to maintain close high-level exchanges. “We are willing to deepen practical cooperation in economy, trade, and other fields,” Lavrov stated.

Lavrov also voiced support for the Global Security Initiative, emphasizing Russia’s readiness to enhance cooperation with China on multilateral platforms. “Together, we aim to promote the establishment of a more just and democratic international order,” he added.

Following their discussions, the foreign ministers held a joint press conference where Wang Yi remarked, “China and Russia have set an example of friendly interaction and win-win cooperation between major countries.”

The meeting underscores the strengthening ties between China and Russia, with both nations seeking to bolster collaboration amidst a complex international landscape. Their commitment to practical cooperation is poised to have significant implications for regional and global affairs.
