President Chandrikapersad Santokhi of the Republic of Suriname will pay a state visit to China from April 11 to 17 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced on Monday.
Marking the fifth anniversary of the strategic cooperative partnership between the two nations, Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized the significance of the visit during a regular press briefing. She conveyed China’s warm welcome to President Santokhi at this pivotal moment in bilateral relations.
President Xi will host a welcome ceremony for President Santokhi, followed by formal talks and the signing of cooperation agreements. Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Wang Huning, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, will also meet with the Surinamese leader to discuss matters of mutual interest.
Mao Ning highlighted Suriname’s role as an important partner in the Caribbean region, noting the fruitful development of bilateral ties since the establishment of diplomatic relations. She stated that cooperation across various fields has yielded significant results.
“China attaches great importance to its relationship with Suriname,” Mao said. “We are willing to work together to expand friendly exchanges and practical cooperation that benefit both countries and their peoples.”
The visit is expected to elevate China-Suriname relations to new heights, fostering deeper collaboration and mutual understanding.
