Guangdong Party Chief Calls for Deeper Exchanges with Taiwan Youth Delegation

Huang Kunming, secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Guangdong Provincial Committee, met with a youth delegation from Taiwan led by former Kuomintang chairman Ma Ying-jeou on Tuesday. The meeting emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation and exchanges between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, especially among the younger generations.

Huang highlighted that Taiwan-funded enterprises have a long history of investment in Guangdong, making the southern province one of the most active regions for economic, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges across the Taiwan Straits. He commended Ma’s visit during the Qingming Festival, a traditional Chinese festival dedicated to honoring ancestors, noting that the profound Chinese culture is the root and spiritual home for compatriots on both sides.

Ma Ying-jeou is leading the youth delegation on an 11-day visit to the Chinese mainland from April 1 to 11. Since arriving in Shenzhen on Monday, the delegation has visited several cities, including Zhongshan, Zhuhai, and Guangzhou.

During the meeting, Ma agreed on the importance of increasing cross-strait exchanges, particularly among the youth. “The youth are the future for the peaceful development across the Taiwan Straits,” Ma said.

The visit aims to foster understanding and friendship between young people from Taiwan and the Chinese mainland through cultural exchanges, visits to historical sites, and discussions on shared heritage and values.

The meetings underscore ongoing efforts to enhance cross-strait relations through dialogue and mutual respect, with a focus on the younger generation as a bridge for future peace and cooperation.
