Over 11,000 Expected to Travel via ‘Mini Three Links’ During Qingming Festival

As the Qingming Festival approaches, over 11,000 inbound and outbound passenger trips are expected under the “mini three links” arrangement between the Chinese mainland and the Taiwan region. According to the Xiamen General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection, this surge represents an approximately 25 percent increase in average daily passenger flow compared to March.

The “mini three links” refer to direct trade, postal, and transport services launched on January 1, 2001, connecting Fujian Province on the mainland with the Kinmen and Matsu islands administered by Taiwan. These links have facilitated closer ties and smoother exchanges between residents on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

Enhancements to the transport services have been made in anticipation of the festival travel rush. Starting from April 1, the passenger route between Fuzhou in Fujian Province and Matsu has doubled its trips from four to eight per day. Similarly, from Quanzhou City in Fujian Province to Kinmen, the frequency has increased to one round trip per day beginning Monday, as reported by China Media Group.

The Qingming Festival, which falls on April 4 this year, is a traditional occasion for families to honor their ancestors, visit gravesites, and spend time with loved ones. The increased travel reflects the cultural significance of the festival and the strong familial bonds across the strait. Many passengers utilizing the “mini three links” are returning to their hometowns to pay respects and reunite with relatives.

An official from the Xiamen General Station highlighted the importance of the travel period, noting that measures are in place to ensure smooth and safe passage for all travelers. The enhanced connectivity is expected to foster greater cultural and economic exchanges between the mainland and the Taiwan region.
