Beijing has strongly criticized what it describes as “military collusion” between the United States and the Taiwan region, calling on Washington to immediately cease any official interactions with the island.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory. He warned the U.S. against sending misleading signals to separatist forces advocating for “Taiwan independence.”
“The one-China principle is the political foundation of China-U.S. relations,” Lin stated. “China urges the U.S. to fully recognize the high sensitivity of the Taiwan question and the grave harm of relevant issues.”
Lin’s remarks came in response to reports of a potential visit by Taiwan’s navy chief to the U.S. next week. The spokesperson urged the U.S. to honor its commitments with concrete actions and abide by the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiqués.
