China and Kazakhstan Strengthen Partnership at First Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue
BEIJING—In a significant move towards enhancing bilateral relations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu convened for the inaugural China-Kazakhstan Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue on Friday.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, emphasized the robust development of China-Kazakhstan relations under the strategic guidance of their respective leaders. “Our relationship continues to be a model of mutual trust, support, and assistance among neighboring countries,” Wang stated.
He highlighted China’s readiness to collaborate with Kazakhstan to expand trade within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. “We aim to jointly build a high-quality, sustainable, and resilient new corridor of connectivity, increase people-to-people exchanges, and explore new areas of cooperation,” Wang added.
Murat Nurtleu affirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to prioritizing relations with China in its diplomatic agenda. “Kazakhstan firmly supports China in safeguarding its core interests related to Taiwan and Xinjiang,” Nurtleu said. “We are eager to strengthen political mutual trust, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, and enhance exchanges between our peoples.”
The dialogue resulted in the announcement of a new strategic dialogue mechanism between the foreign ministers of both countries. The ministers agreed to:
- Jointly promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.
- Deepen sub-national and people-to-people exchanges.
- Enhance cooperation against interference and infiltration.
- Upgrade law enforcement and security cooperation comprehensively.
- Improve and strengthen the China-Central Asia mechanism.
- Support each other during the rotating presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
- Collaborate closely within multilateral organizations such as the United Nations and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia.
The establishment of the strategic dialogue mechanism is seen as a pivotal step in advancing bilateral relations and regional stability. Both nations are poised to play a more influential role in regional affairs, fostering development and prosperity in Central Asia.
