The Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2024 concluded on a successful note in Boao, a coastal town in the Chinese province of Hainan, bringing together leaders and delegates from over 60 countries and regions. The conference, held from March 26 to 29 under the theme “Asia and the World: Common Challenges, Shared Responsibilities“, fostered a series of significant consensuses aimed at addressing global issues.
“All parties are more aware of the challenges facing the world today,” said Li Baodong, BFA Secretary General, at the closing press conference. “Countries are encountering common challenges, including the sluggish global economic recovery and the persistence of regional conflicts. Only by working together can we better handle these challenges.”
Li emphasized Asia’s leading role in ushering in a new era of sustainable development, noting that China remains a pillar of growth in the post-COVID-19 world economy. “China is advancing high-quality development and further opening up. The country is expected to remain the largest contributor to global economic growth,” he stated.
The conference underscored the importance of innovation as an inexhaustible driving force for development. Delegates agreed that accelerating actions on climate change is imperative for sustainable progress.
The annual event drew about 2,000 delegates and over 1,100 journalists, facilitating dialogues on pressing issues ranging from economic recovery to environmental sustainability. Founded in 2001, the BFA is a non-governmental and non-profit international organization committed to promoting regional economic integration and bringing Asian countries closer to their development goals.
