Chinese Premier Li Qiang Holds Talks with Dominican Prime Minister Skerrit in Beijing

Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit of the Commonwealth of Dominica in Beijing on Monday, marking the 20th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations. The meeting underscored the deepening partnership and cooperation across various sectors.

“Over the past 20 years, China and Dominica have treated each other with mutual respect and equality,” Premier Li said. “Our bilateral ties have made substantial progress, setting a good example for countries of different sizes to achieve mutual benefits.”

Premier Li emphasized China’s readiness to work with Dominica to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries, strengthen political mutual trust, and push for new and greater development in bilateral relations and cooperation.

He highlighted areas for continued collaboration, including infrastructure construction, agriculture, and trade, under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. “China is willing to enhance cooperation with Dominica in new energy, the digital economy, and the blue economy,” Li added. He also expressed support for Chinese enterprises investing in Dominica and welcomed Dominica and other Caribbean countries to participate in the upcoming fourth China-Caribbean Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum.

Prime Minister Skerrit expressed his appreciation for China’s support, stating that Dominica and China have forged a profound friendship over the past two decades. “Dominica is willing to strengthen communication with China, expand cooperation, and work together to deal with climate change,” Skerrit said.

The two leaders witnessed the signing of several bilateral cooperation documents on joint construction of the Belt and Road, agriculture, green development, infrastructure, and the implementation of the Global Development Initiative.
